Greyhounds

Greyhounds are known since a deep antiquity. Their images are available on bas-reliefs of the Egyptian pyramids and ruins of Ancient Assiria. The Europeans got acquainted with greyhounds in the period of crusades. In our country these dogs were widely distributed already in Kiev Russia, and the inhabitants of Central Asia hunted with them long before the occurrence of the first pioneers from Europe there.

Longmuzzle, harmonious and lean greyhounds are famous for their incomparable speed of run. From mammals only gepard can be compared, with them which develops speed up to 90 kilometers at one o'clock as they do.

Two breeds of greyhounds are presented in Republic Mari El: russian psowaya barsaya and eastern greyhounds.

Russian psowaya barsaya.

Russian psowaya barsaya

When we speak about greyhounds, first of all it appears in mind a russian psowaya barsaya, immortalized by the writers, poets and artists for its incomparable beauty, a playfulness and courage. Russian psowaya barsaya has got world popularity and wide circulation in the countries of all world not only for beauty. The hunters appreciate speed of run of this dog, unselfish passion to prosecution of an animal, force and courage in fight even with such dangerous predator as wolf.

Russian psowaya barsaya are considered as the fastest in the group of greyhounds. They are the dogs - quick runners, deduced for baiting of an animal on the limited spaces between glades of separate wood sites and coppices of Middle Russian plain.

These incomparable jumpers overtake the fastest hare by lightning throw. And fox can`t save from them if it is noticed by greyhounds. And in the near past these graceful and harmonious dogs took caught a throat of a wolf with dead clutch.

But all the same russian psowaya barsaya is a leader not everywhere. In boundless open spaces of the south of Russia and in steppes of Central Asia even the fastest dogs - quick runners are not enough bootyfull. In such lands the hunter notices an animal, at a distance as a rule. Is not possible to steal up him to it. Imperceptibly long prosecution on rapproachement to an animal here is required, then it is necessary to make not only one run, or to tire it out to exhaustion. Russian psowaya barsaya, which is completely worked out at once after start-up, in such conditions does not suit. The following representative from breed of greyhounds are more suitable for such hunt.

It seems that in Republic Mari El the nature has created all conditions for a hunt with russian psowaya barsaya. Here flooded meadows are replaced by copses where it is frequently possible to meet hare. And fox keeps somewhere nearby.

Eastern greyhounds.

Eastern greyhound

Eastern greyhounds is an ancient in last years extremely not numerous breed deduced in the south - wester areas of the country by crossing shorthaired and rather gentle english greyhounds with ancient crimean and mauntain, and also russian psowaya barsaya. As a result the smooth dogs combining the best qualities of initial breeds were received. Smooth, but lengthened wool provides sufficient protection against colds and heat, at the same time it almost does not soak and is not soiled even at a hunt in autumn foul weather. Eastern greyhounds have ability to long prosecution of an animal, which is typical for east greyhounds, in a combination with playfulness during runs and in the throw which has been lead up to perfection in russian psowaya barsaya.

In the past eastern greyhounds were widely spread on the territory of the Ukraine, in the south - western areas of Russia, in Poland. Now in the critically small number these remarkable dogs are kept in Tambov, Volgograd region, on Stavropolye, in Republic Mari El and at few Moscow enthusiasts.
